Lithium bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)dithiomethanedithioate is a lithium salt that binds to metal ions and chelates them. It has been shown to be less toxic than other lithium salts. Lithium bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)dithiomethanedithioate is used in biological samples such as human serum and cell culture media for the determination of metal concentration. This reagent can also be used in fluorescence probe techniques for the detection of metal ions in biological samples. Lithium bis(2,2,2-trifluoroethyl)dithiomethanedithioate reacts with sodium carbonate to form an ester linkages. The optimum concentration of this reagent is determined by using a surface methodology or analytical method.
