2-Methylbenzothiazole is a benzimidazole derivative with fluorescence properties. It has been used as a model protein in the study of enzyme activity and substrate binding. 2-Methylbenzothiazole is also used to probe the molecular environment of human carcinoma cells and to identify unknown compounds in liquid chromatography. The optical properties of this molecule have been measured by fluorescence probe, which can be used for structural identification. The fluorescence properties of 2-methylbenzothiazole are dependent on the presence of other molecules such as anhydrous sodium or sodium carbonate, which may be useful for electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.
