Methyl 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropanoate is a fluorocarbon that is used as a solvent for electrochemistry and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. It has been shown to have a high boiling point of 155°C and low vapor pressure at room temperature. Methyl 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropanoate also has a high dielectric constant (50) and high solubility in organic solvents. It is stable at room temperature but can be decomposed by sunlight or ultraviolet light. This compound can also react with chlorine atoms to form methylchloroformate.
Methyl 2,2,3,3,3-pentafluoropropanoate has been used to study the transfer mechanism of heavy metals in environmental samples such as soil and water samples. The sensitivity of the method was found to be dependent on the concentration of methyl 2,2,
