• Descrição: Beta-MSH is a hormone that belongs to the peptide hormones group. It is synthesized in the pituitary gland and released in response to stress, trauma or injury. Beta-MSH has been shown to regulate many physiological functions, including adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH) secretion, skin pigmentation and regulation of body temperature. Beta-MSH also has diagnostic applications as it can be used to measure levels of this hormone in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The n-terminal prohormone fragment of beta-MSH can be measured by radioimmunoassay (RIA) or enzyme immunoassay (EIA), while the c-terminal prohormone fragment can be measured by RIA.
