Molecular docking analysis has revealed that methyl-6-aminonicotinic acid binds to the 6th amino acid residue on the enzyme fatty acid synthase (FAS). The carbonyl group of this molecule interacts with the hydroxyl group of Serine, leading to its inhibition and inhibiting fatty acid synthesis.
