2-Methoxynicotinonitrile is a chalcone derivative that exhibits mesomorphic properties. It has been shown to be photophysical and electrochemical studies, and in the fluorescence properties of mesophase solutions. 2-Methoxynicotinonitrile has also been used as a precursor for the synthesis of pyrazole derivatives with cancer therapeutic activity in order to study their structure-activity relationship. The crystal x-ray diffraction studies on synthesized compounds have revealed that they contain two pyrazole rings fused together with a methoxy group at one end. These compounds are found to be luminescent and can be used in molecular modeling studies.
