Methyl (7-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-yl)acetate is a planar, aromatic compound with the molecular formula CH3OCHC6H4O2. It is a condensation product of resorcinol and acetone, and is formed by the condensation of two molecules of resorcinol. The molecule has a torsion angle of about 60° and has an anomalous dispersion in its plane. The crystal structure consists of chains that are crosslinked to each other with hydrogen bonds.
Methyl (7-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-4-yl)acetate can be used as a precursor to produce coumarin, which is an indole derivative that has antiplatelet activity and can be used as an anticoagulant or vasopressor agent.
