4-Methyl-2-phenyl-1,3-thiazole-5-carboxylic acid is an anionic compound that consists of a benzene ring with a thiazole ring. It has the chemical formula C6H4(COOH)2 and a molecular weight of 168.14 g/mol. The compound can be made by regiospecifically deprotonating a phenyl group with trisubstituted anions such as BF3OEt2, BF3OEt, or BF3OAc. This process results in the formation of two regioselective products; one isomer will have three methyl groups on the phenyl ring and the other will have two methyl groups on the phenyl ring. The yields of these reactions are dependent on the type and concentration of acid used to deprotonate the phenyl group, as well as its steric effects on the reaction. 4-M
