Methyl 4,5-dimethyl-2-furoate is a chemical compound that is soluble in ether and extracted with bicarbonate. It is a product of the reaction of sodium hydroxide and furoic acid. Methyl 4,5-dimethyl-2-furoate can be prepared by neutralizing a sodium bicarbonate solution with an acid such as sulfuric acid or sulfurous acid. This chemical is used to make other chemicals, such as sodium bicarbonate and sodium sulfate. The main use of methyl 4,5-dimethyl-2-furoate is in the production of bicarbonates by reacting with carbon dioxide gas.
