N-(Methylsulfonyl)-N-phenylglycine is a drug candidate that has been shown to inhibit the activity of phosphatases. It is an allosteric inhibitor that binds to the phosphatase's active site and blocks its ability to catalyze reactions. This inhibitor was shown to enhance insulin-stimulated glucose uptake by cells in culture, which may be due to its ability to stabilize insulin receptor complexes at the cell membrane.
