• Descrição: Methyl 2-(hydroxymethyl)acrylate is an organic compound that is used in the synthesis of polymers. It is a monomer in the polymerization of acrylic acid, and it can be prepared by reacting methyl cinnamate with hydroxymethyl chloride. Methyl 2-(hydroxymethyl)acrylate has been shown to have antifungal properties, inhibiting filamentous fungi such as Aspergillus and Penicillium. The mechanism of this inhibition is not yet known. Methyl 2-(hydroxymethyl)acrylate also catalyzes the reaction between phosphite and acid chlorides to form acid derivatives, which are useful in the production of polyesters and other polymers.
