4-Methoxy-2-methylpyrimidine is a chemical compound that can be used as a building block for the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds. It contains an anion, amide and deuterium isotope effect substitutions. The substitution of the hydrogen atom with deuterium (2H) in 4-methoxy-2-methylpyrimidine increases the acidity of the molecule. In other words, it makes the molecule more acidic. This mechanism has been studied using mechanistic techniques such as protonation and isotope effect studies. 4-Methoxy-2-methylpyrimidine has been shown to be substituted by amines to form new heterocyclic rings.
