4'-Methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-carboxylic acid is a hypotensive agent that belongs to the group of organic solvents. It is an inexpensively produced drug that has been used in medicine for many years. The mechanism of action of 4'-methyl-[1,1'-biphenyl]-2-carboxylic acid is not well understood, but it is thought to be due to its ability to activate G protein-coupled receptors and inhibit calcium channels. This drug also has a dehydrating effect on fatty acids. The ester form of this drug can be obtained by reacting it with methanol and acetic acid in the presence of an acid catalyst.
