1-(4-Methylphenyl)-2-(4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2-imino-3(2H)-benzothiazolyl)ethanone hydrobromide is a pro-apoptotic molecule that induces apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. It has been shown to induce apoptosis by activating pro-apoptotic protein Bax and mitochondrial membrane potential (Δψm) loss. 1-(4-Methylphenyl)-2-(4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-2-imino-3(2H)-benzothiazolyl)ethanone hydrobromide also inhibits angiogenesis by blocking the activation of basic proteins and the angiogenic process. In vitro studies have demonstrated that this compound binds to response elements on DNA that are associated with tumor suppression genes and causes neuronal death.
