5-Methoxybenzofuran-2-carboxylic acid is a formylation reagent that is used to synthesize amides. It can be prepared through the reaction of furan with formic acid and methanol. 5-Methoxybenzofuran-2-carboxylic acid can also undergo a solvolysis using tetrahydrofuran as a solvent. This compound has been shown to react with serine protease at temperatures below 100°C and form an amide. It is soluble in organic solvents such as tetrahydrofuran, benzene, and dioxane.
