3-Methylthiophene-2-boronic acid pinacolester is a crystalline compound that is soluble in organic solvents, such as benzene, toluene and chloroform. The mesogenic properties of this material allow it to be used in the fabrication of liquid crystals. 3-Methylthiophene-2-boronic acid pinacolester has a transition temperature of about 135°C, which makes it useful for optical microscopy and as an additive in thermophysical applications. 3-Methylthiophene-2-boronic acid pinacolester also has semiconducting properties and can be used in advances in electronics. It has a high solubility parameter (log σ = -10), which makes it an excellent solvent for organic compounds with low solubility parameters (log σ >10).
