(2-Methylindol-1-yl)acetic acid is a synthetic peptide that has been shown to act as an inhibitor of the cleavage reaction. This compound has been shown to be a competitive inhibitor of thiocyanate in cleavage reactions with bromoacetate. The 2-methylindole moiety of this compound is found in natural indoles such as tryptophan and serotonin, which are precursors for the synthesis of neurotransmitters.
