1-Methyl-3,4-bis(3-indolyl)maleimide (1M3BM) is a chemical compound that has been shown to be an inhibitor of the epidermal growth factor receptor. It binds to the EGF receptor, thereby preventing the binding of EGF and activation of downstream signaling pathways. 1M3BM inhibits the activity of enzymes that synthesize fatty acids in cells, which may lead to decreased fat accumulation in fat cells. This drug also inhibits the activation of toll-like receptors by blocking nuclear factor κB (NFκB). These effects may help to alleviate diabetic neuropathy.
