2-((4-Methoxybenzyl)amino)ethanol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of thiazolidinediones. It activates receptors in the peroxisome proliferator activated receptor (PPAR) superfamily, which are associated with insulin sensitivity and diabetes. 2-((4-Methoxybenzyl)amino)ethanol also has antidiabetic properties and is used as an insulin sensitiser. This compound stimulates the transcription factor PPARγ, which is involved in the activation of genes that regulate glucose uptake and storage by adipose tissue cells. It also reduces the production of inflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNFα), interleukin 6 (IL6), and IL1β, which may contribute to its anti-inflammatory activities.
