Methyl 3-aminothieno[3,2-b]pyridine-2-carboxylate (MTAT) is a potential anticancer drug that is structurally related to the known anticancer drug aminothiophene. MTAT has been shown to inhibit cell growth in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism of action of MTAT is not yet fully understood, but it has been reported that this agent may inhibit phosphatidylcholine synthesis by binding to the choline moiety of phosphatidylcholine. This leads to reduced cell proliferation and increased cell death due to apoptosis. In addition, MTAT showed a strong inhibitory effect on nitro compounds such as nitrobenzene and nitrophenol.
MTAT can be used for the treatment of cancer or other disorders that involve abnormal cell growth or proliferation.
