cis-4-Methylcyclohexylamine HCl is an antidiabetic drug that belongs to the class of drugs called sulfonylureas. It is a cyclic ether with a chemical name of cis-4-methylcyclohexylamine hydrochloride. The preparation process begins with the isomerization of 4-methylcyclohexylamine to form the corresponding cyclic ether, followed by its conversion to cis-4-methylcyclohexylamine hydrochloride. This drug binds to ATP receptors in pancreatic beta cells and causes an increase in intracellular calcium levels, which leads to increased insulin secretion from the beta cells. The synthesis process for this drug begins with the synthesis of 4-methylcyclohexylamine from acetaldehyde and ammonia.
