Methyl cyanocarbamate is a chemical compound that can be used as an environmentally friendly reagent for wastewater treatment. It is a low-energy organic solution that has been shown to be effective in treating acidic and nitro wastewater. Methyl cyanocarbamate reacts with sodium carbonate and sodium hydroxide to form methyl ethyl carbamate, which is then hydrolyzed by the addition of water to form methyl ethyl carboxylate. This chemical can also be used as a cross-linking agent through the Friedel-Crafts reaction with chloroacetic acid.
