It is used in the synthesis of eugenol and estragole, which are important components in the flavor industry. The optimum concentration of 1-methoxy-4-(2-propenyl)benzene for killing insects is around 0.1%. In toxicity studies, it has been shown to be carcinogenic in rats and mice. However, this chemical's effect on humans is not well understood at this time.
