Descrição:Mitochondrial dysfunction is the most common cause of oxidative injury in humans. Mitochondrial dysfunction can be caused by a variety of factors, including oxidative stress and mitochondrial DNA mutations. Mitoquinone, a mitochondrial antioxidant, is capable of reducing oxidative injury in cells by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and preventing ROS-induced damage to mitochondrial DNA. Mitoquinone also inhibits apoptosis induced by cytosolic Ca2+ overload in cells, which may be due to its ability to suppress nuclear DNA degradation. Mitoquinone has been shown to inhibit the growth factor-β1 pathway, which is the main pathway for the activation of Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4). The TLR4 pathway plays an important role in the pathogenesis of bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.
