Methyl beta-DL-prolinate hydrochloride is a drug that belongs to the class of benzene. It has been shown to have antagonistic activity against diabetes and human G protein-coupled receptors of the L type, which are involved in the regulation of food intake and weight gain. Methyl beta-DL-prolinate hydrochloride also binds to the carboxyl subtype of the GABA receptor in mice with a high-fat diet. This leads to an enhancement of GABAergic signaling, which results in decreased food intake and body weight gain. The drug also has an optimum interaction with c57bl/6j mice as it enhances GABAergic signaling through the benzodiazepine binding site on this particular mouse strain's GABA receptor.
