The reaction mechanism for the Suzuki-Miyaura cross-coupling is shown in Figure 1. In this reaction, a palladium catalyst is used to form a covalent bond between two organic molecules. The reactant on the left (L) can be an alkyl halide, acetate, or an organozinc reagent. The reactant on the right (R) can be an aryl halide, alcohol, or an aryl Grignard reagent. This reaction proceeds by heating the reactants together in the presence of palladium catalyst and base to yield products with a covalent bond between them.
