Murabutide is an HIV drug that belongs to the class of protease inhibitors. It is a competitive inhibitor of HIV-1 protease, which blocks the cleavage of polypeptides and inhibits viral replication. Murabutide has been shown to be active against both wild-type and drug-resistant strains of HIV-1 in cell culture studies. This agent exhibits low toxicity in animals, with minimal effects on weight gain and food consumption, as well as no significant changes in hematology or serum chemistry values. Murabutide also has minimal effects on human macrophages and human immunoglobulin levels. In addition, murabutide has shown minimal toxicity in animal models, with no significant changes in weight gain or food consumption and no significant changes in hematology or serum chemistry values.
