Methylamine acetate has been shown to inhibit the activity of acetylcholinesterase, which is an important enzyme in the nervous system that breaks down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. In addition, methylamine acetate inhibits the replication of HIV by binding to reverse transcriptase, a viral enzyme that is necessary for transcription and replication. The reaction yield for methylamine acetate can be increased through modifications such as crystallization or subunits. The process can be optimized by hydrolysis with hydrochloric acid.
