BI 425809 is a drug that belongs to the class of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) and has been shown in clinical studies to be effective in the treatment of depression. The safety profile of BI 425809 has been established in clinical trials with healthy Chinese subjects, where it was found that the drug had no harmful effects at doses up to 400 mg/day. The concentration-time curve for BI 425809 showed an interactive response with food intake, which may indicate a need for dosage adjustment when taken with food. Pharmacokinetic properties have been evaluated in healthy Chinese subjects, showing that oral absorption is rapid and complete; elimination is mainly by hepatic metabolism; and elimination half-life is approximately 12 hours. BI 425809 has a low potential for abuse as it does not bind to dopamine receptors or produce any rewarding effects.
