Exemestane is a drug that belongs to the class of chemical inhibitors. It binds to the aromatase enzyme, which is necessary for estrogen production in postmenopausal women. This leads to a reduction in estrogen levels and can be used for the treatment of breast cancer. Exemestane has been shown to have inhibitory properties on cell signaling pathways, such as by reducing the cytosolic Ca2+ concentration and inhibiting protein synthesis in cells. The drug also has metabolic effects, including an increase in cholesterol levels.
