Descrição:Melengestrol acetate is a progestin hormone used in veterinary medicine as an anabolic agent. It has been shown to improve the survival of animals with bowel disease, and to stimulate the appetite of animals that are not eating well. Melengestrol acetate has also been found to suppress estrus activity in female animals. The toxicological studies related to melengestrol acetate have been conducted on rats and mice treated with melengestrol acetate, which were observed for up to one year. These studies showed that this drug does not induce any significant toxic effects at doses up to 1000 mg/kg body weight. The analytical method for melengestrol acetate is based on high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet detection (UV). Melengestrol acetate was found in human serum.
