Descrição:Metalaxyl is an organo-metallic compound, which is a chiral molecule. This compound binds to the enzyme ATPase and inhibits the ATPase activity of plant cells. Metalaxyl has shown genotoxic effects in plants and animals that are not observed with other fungicides. The metalaxyl-induced genotoxicity may be due to its ability to bind DNA, leading to the formation of adducts or breakage of DNA strands. It also has toxic effects on energy metabolism and polymerase chain reactions (PCR). Metalaxyl can be found in nutrient solutions for plants.
