Methicillin sodium is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. It is used in the treatment of infectious diseases, such as bacterial infections. Methicillin sodium inhibits the growth of bacteria by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs) and prevents them from linking with enzymes that are necessary for cell wall biosynthesis. Methicillin sodium may also inhibit microbial growth by interfering with microbial protein synthesis. Methicillin sodium has been shown to be effective against vancomycin-resistant strains of microorganisms, including Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecalis, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
