N-Methyl etodolac is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that belongs to the class of drugs called oxicams. It is used to relieve pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. N-Methyl etodolac has been shown to be a more potent anti-inflammatory drug than its parent compound, etodolac. It can also be used as an analgesic for acute pain and as a fever reducer. The mechanism of action of N-methyl etodolac is not well understood, but it may cause suppression of prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting cyclooxygenase activity or through the inhibition of proinflammatory cytokines such as IL-1β and TNFα.
