Paclitaxel is a hydrophobic drug that is used for the treatment of cancer. Paclitaxel is a natural product that was originally isolated from the bark of the Pacific Yew tree. Paclitaxel has been shown to bind to tubulin, which inhibits microtubule assembly and leads to cell death. 2'-O-Methyl paclitaxel is an analog of paclitaxel that has been studied in order to understand its structure-activity relationship. It has been found that 2'-O-methyl paclitaxel binds to tubulin with a higher affinity than paclitaxel and it also causes conformational changes in the molecule, making it more hydrophilic. These changes make 2'-O-methyl paclitaxel an attractive candidate for anticancer therapy.
