2-Methyl-1-butyl isothiocyanate (MTIC) is a volatile organic compound that belongs to the group of isothiocyanates. MTIC has been shown to have significant cytotoxicity against juvenile nematodes and chrysanthemum plants. MTIC also induces necrosis in some organisms. It is thought that this effect may be due to its ability to inhibit the synthesis of proteins, which are essential for cell division and growth. MTIC has been shown to have anti-cancer properties by inhibiting protein synthesis in tumor cells, leading to cell death.
