6(or 7)-Methyl-1H-benzotriazole is a low potency inhibitor of glycol ethers. It has been shown to be effective in wastewater treatment and can be used as an additive to inhibit the corrosion of zirconium oxide. The synergic effect of 6(or 7)-Methyl-1H-benzotriazole with other inhibitors is also promising for use in water treatment. 6(or 7)-Methyl-1H-benzotriazole has been shown to have ecological effects on plants, animals, and humans. It has been shown to significantly reduce the amount of air entrained in water droplets and the corrosion of copper pipes in laboratory studies.
