It can be used as a precursor for synthesizing other compounds, such as insecticides, herbicides, and pharmaceuticals. Methyl 2-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzoate reacts with carbon disulphide to produce nitrosamines, which are highly reactive with biomolecules and have toxic effects on cells. The inhibitory activity of methyl 2-hydroxy-3-nitrobenzoate towards the reaction system was enhanced when it was recycled.
