6-Methyl-1-indanone is a reactive compound that has been used in the synthesis of various other compounds. It can be prepared by photolysis of 6-methoxy-1-indanone with hydrogen chloride and hydrochloric acid.
6-Methyl-1-indanone is an intramolecular hydrogen acceptor, with homologous reactivity to the methyl group and methoxy groups. The presence of these reactive groups makes it suitable for use in the synthesis of amines and carbamic acids, which have high energy content. 6-Methyl-1-indanone may also be used as an intermediate for the preparation of other compounds by solid phase synthesis.
