Methyl 2-bromovalerate is a hydroxy group with an unsaturated ketone and carbonyl group. It has been shown to be a stereoisomer of aminoglycoside antibiotics, such as gentamicin and kanamycin. Methyl 2-bromovalerate is used as a drug for inflammatory diseases and psychosis. The mechanism of action is not yet clear, but it may be due to its ability to inhibit the production of growth factor, which may lead to the inhibition of cell proliferation. Methyl 2-bromovalerate can also induce psychosis by affecting neurotransmitters in the brain.
