Cis-methylisoeugenol is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that is used to treat pain, inflammation and fever. It binds to the COX enzyme, which has been shown to inhibit the production of prostaglandins. In rat liver microsomes, cis-methylisoeugenol inhibits the activity of acetylcholinesterase and carboxylesterase. This drug also has been shown to inhibit colorectal adenocarcinoma in rats by altering cell cycle progression through phase transition temperature. Cis-methylisoeugenol has been found to be metabolized by glucuronidation into methyl eugenol (ME).
