6-Methoxy-4-hydroxyquinoline is a methoxyphenyl compound that has been shown to be effective in the industrial production of propionate esters. This chemical has a crystallizing property and can be isolated from natural sources. It can also be synthesized by reducing nitrobenzene with sodium hydroxide and hydrochloric acid, or by reacting nitrophenol with protonated ammonia. 6-Methoxy-4-hydroxyquinoline is usually prepared using a reduction reaction, which involves the removal of one or more electrons from an organic molecule. The most common method for this reaction is to use zinc metal as a catalyst to reduce nitrobenzene to 6-methoxy-4-hydroxyquinoline.
