Trans-4-methylcyclohexylisocyanate (TMCIC) is a chemical intermediate that is used in the synthesis of glibenclamide, a drug that lowers blood sugar levels. TMCIC has been shown to have antidiabetic properties, but it also has carcinogenic impurities. The purity of TMCIC can be improved through preparative high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The use of HPLC allows for the separation and concentration of TMCIC from other substances. This purified form is more suitable for clinical studies and optimizing dosage amounts.
