3'-Methylbiphenyl-3-carboxylic acid is a solvent that is used in the preparation of aryl chlorides, bromoarenes, and diarylmethanes. This compound has been shown to be useful in the Suzuki coupling reaction as well as cross-coupling reactions. 3'-Methylbiphenyl-3-carboxylic acid is used in the preparation of alkylboronic acids or esters for use in cross-coupling reactions. It can be used as an alternative to other solvents such as acetone or chlorinated solvents such as dichloromethane. The product can also be used to prepare diarylmethanes and arylpropenes by irradiation with ultraviolet light.
