4-Methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one is a gaseous compound that belongs to the group of pyrazole derivatives. It has been found to react with hydrogen peroxide to form 4,4'-bipyrazole in the presence of catalysts. This reaction is an example of catalytic hydrogenation and is exothermic, which means that it releases heat. The enthalpy change for this reaction is -8.8 kJ/mol. The entropic change for this reaction is 1.9 J/(K*mol). 4-Methyl-2-pyrazolin-5-one has been found to crystallize as a solid at pressures above 100 kPa and temperatures below 60°C.
