1-(Methylsulfonyl)piperazine (1-MSMP) is a molecule that has been shown to have potent inhibitory activity against cancer cells. 1-MSMP is a covalent inhibitor of the 5-HT4 receptor, which may be due to its ability to form hydrogen bonds with the receptor. This drug has also been shown to induce apoptosis in prostate cancer cells and inhibit cellular proliferation in breast cancer cells, suggesting that it may be useful for treating various cancers. 1-MSMP was found to have chemoprotective effects against colitis by inhibiting the growth of inflammatory cells.
