4-Methyltrityl chloride is a synthetic molecule that is used in the solid-phase synthesis of amines. It can be prepared by reacting trifluoroacetic acid with an amine, which forms a chloroformate. 4-Methyltrityl chloride has been shown to inhibit the uptake of neurotrophins and neurotrophic factors into cells and has been proposed as a possible treatment for sensorineural hearing loss. This compound also inhibits cellular uptake of organometallic compounds such as mercury and lead, which may have implications for environmental pollution.
