- 4-Methoxypentan-2-ol
4-Methoxy-2-pentanol is a reactive compound that can be found in the ether class. It has been shown that 4-methoxy-2-pentanol reacts with dioxygen to form two molecules of 2,4-dimethylphenol and one molecule of 2,4,6-trimethylphenol. The autoxidation of 4-methoxy-2-pentanol can also occur through a recombination pathway. In this process, the ether group is cleaved off and replaced by a hydroxyl group. This produces two molecules of 5-[(1E)-3-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexenyl]methylbenzaldehyde and one molecule of 3-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexene. Another possible reaction for 4-methoxy-2-pentanol is disproportionation, which consists of an intramolecular reaction between two identical molecules to produce four molecules of acetic acid
