Methyl 2-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzoate is a heterocyclic compound. It is the first step in an elimination reaction that leads to liriodenine. The deprotonation of methyl 2-(1H-pyrrol-1-yl)benzoate with an acid yields the corresponding ketone and chloride ion, which can be used as a reagent for the synthesis of azafulvenium. The kinetic studies of this reaction were found to be enzyme catalytic and iminium formation was favored thermodynamically.
