Methyl 2-bromo-3-nitrobenzoate is a reactive monoxide compound that can be reduced with carbon monoxide to the corresponding nitrobenzene. The conversion is catalyzed by palladium ions in the presence of benzimidazoles. This reaction has been shown to be useful for the synthesis of benzimidazole derivatives.
